PLA is an abbreviation of polylactic acid, which is a biodegradable thermoplastic polyester.
Its formation is mainly by chemical synthesis. Taking lactic acid as raw material, lactic acid molecules have a hydroxyl group and a carboxyl group, and under appropriate conditions, such as using a catalyst, these lactic acid molecules will undergo a polycondensation reaction. The hydroxyl and carboxyl groups of many lactic acid molecules interact to remove the water molecules, and then connect the long chain of polylactic acid molecules to form PLA, a polymer material. This is like many small beads (lactic acid molecules) strung together in a specific connection (polycondensation) to form a long necklace (PLA molecular chain).
